I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings...

We see many images of caged birds in the art community. Some are quite lovely, striking, and powerful. In the famous poem "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou, she expresses that "the caged bird sings for freedom." So does an image of a caged bird stir up feelings of entrapment and sadness? Or does a cage represent home? A little bird all snug and secure in his home, singing his song because that is what he knows best.

Here are some beautiful caged pieces.

I like the saying "you can cage the bird but you can't cage the song".

I have a pet parrot and he loves he cage better than any other place. He is out and free to go anywhere - but that is his safe place - so he stays.
